Yeast

Experiment

Here is the yeast experiment with a bottle, yeast and a balloon. The experiment is done in 3 bottles. Lets see what happens after 20 minutes?

Research

What effect does sugar have on yeast?

What is fermentation?

What are 3 foods / drinks that have yeast?

Yeast is alive and in a hibernation state. It is a fungi.

Aim: To look at how yeast is used in foods.

Equipment

 Spoons

Kettle

Bowl

Beaker

Cloth Sieve

Funnel

Plastic(PET) bottle an cap.

Materials

Bug (for group of 3)

50ml water

1.2 tsp active dried yeast

1/2 tsp sugar

1/2 tsp ground ginger

Ginger beer (for 1 litre)

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 tsp cream of tartar

1L cold water

Juice o 1/2 lemon

1 tsp ginger beer bug.

Method

1. In a large bowl, put the sugar and cram of tartar, then add the warm water.

2. Stir to dissolve the sugar before adding the cold water.

3. Add the ginger beer bug to the large bowl of cold water.

4. Stir well and then pour into your clean bottle.

5. Label your bottle with your group names.

6. Place all the bottles in the glass container.

7. Store in a cool, dark place for one week before drinking.

8. Make sure you open the bottle in the kitchen sink as it might overflow. Open the cap bit by bit to allow the air to escape.

The ginger must be drunk over the 6 days.

You must provide your own bottle.

We wanted to see how yeast was best activated. To do this we use 3 conical flasks, a teaspoon of yeast in each one, some water in each one and some sugar in one flask. We need then put a balloon on top of each flask. We found out that the flask that had yeast and sugar inflated the balloon. It showed that when yeast has sugar it activates and creates a gas called "Carbon Dioxide Gas".

Springbok Tour Protest

Hello guys! Today I am going to answer question from this story called the Springbok Tour!

Let's get started!

What is another word for apartheid? Separateness

Why did protesters need helmets? Because police used special long batons

Why do I think being called honorary whites upset the Maori All Blacks? Because they wanted to be themselves not being called like white people.

Why was the Hamilton rugby game cancelled? Hundreds of protesters filled the stadium.

Do I think the protest was successful? Why? or Why not? Yes t was successful because the police could only control the protesters with long batons nothing else.

How do I think the NZ protest helped Nelson Mandela? Because he probably knew what he was gonna do by getting inspiration from the protesters.

Here is the story!

I hope you guys like my post and see you on the next one! Goodbye!

Chilli Tasting!

 Welcome back to another post!

So today I am going to be tasting chilli, I hope I can handle it but.. Before we can do that we are going to research about them!

Chilli means like a plant that's hot.

The quest for the world's hottest chilliThe chemical that is in the plant is Capsaicin

Guajillo plant

Red Cayenne Pepper
Habanero

6. Naga Viper - England
5. Trinidad Scorpion “Butch T” - Texas, Arizona, Florida and all hot areas
4. 7 Pot Primo - Louisiana
3. 7 Pot Douglah - Caribbean Islands
2. Trinidad Moruga Scorpion - Texas, Arizona, Florida and all hot areas
1. Carolina Reaper - South Carolina

Scoville Chilli Scale scales the spiciness and heat.
Scoville Chilli Scale uses the concentration of the capsaicinoids to check how spicy/hot it is.

Aim: To see which is the best way to cool down the hot chilli taste in your mouth when eating chilli. Hypothesis: I think that by using milk I will be able to remove the hot chilli taste from my mouth. Equipment: Milk Water Coca Cola Tasting cup Chilli. Method: You will work in groups of three for this experiment. Each person in the group will use one of the drinks with the chilli. You will then swap results in your group so that everyone has the same results. Each member of the group needs to have their own tasting cup. This will be used for putting the different liquids in as we cool off the chilli in our mouths. Place a piece of chilli in your mouth. After 10 seconds you will drink the liquid that you have in your cup. As you do this you will complete a results chart. You will be recording the following using Yes or No The effectiveness of the liquid immediately. The effectiveness of the liquid after 10 seconds.

Chilli Tasting Results

Record : Yes or No

Immediately

After 5 minutes

Milk

It didn't take away the taste.   It still didn't take away the spiciness.

Water

Only had a small effect on the chilli. It had a bit bigger effect but I still taste it

Coca Cola

It only had a small effect but there was still more of the taste. It had a huge effect on the sauce.

Coca-Cola was the most effective based on my recording when tasting Carolina Reaper sauce but it's the third of the spiciness not the whole thing.

I hope you guys like my post! Goodbye!

Climate Change

Welcome back guys! Today I am going to be organising the timeline of the climate change on New Zealand like talking abut what was the main point for that month. I am also going to be doing a Vocabulary, like I am going to be translating the words below in my own words!

Let's get started!

On March 15 2019 the protest were pushing for the Zero Carbon Act to make NZ carbon neutral by 2050. Then on 24th of May tens and thousands of people wanted to protest longer so they could make a big difference to NZ. On 27th of September they demanded action from NZ government. Last They wanted to create a Climate Change Commission.

Climate Change: Increasing earth's heat on the ground.

Campaign: Going on a special mission or work to do

Demonstration: Proving people that it's the truth by showing evidence.

Zero Carbon: No chemical because it cannot be used again.

Touchpad

Hello guys! Today I am going to show you the slide I did and it was an activity to finish the activity on the slide like having to connect the line to the dots or like putting the right items on the right box!

Here is the work I did!

I hope you guys like my post! Goodbye and I'll see you on the next one!
